Suzue Corporation (Head Office in Yokohama, Japan) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the field of global logistics with Oman’s Asyad Shipping (Oman Shipping Company S.A.O.C), a prominent shipping player in the MENA region and a member of Oman's global integrated logistics service provider, Asyad Group, on 23 January 2022.
This agreement aims to develop international logistics by leveraging the international reach and networks of Suzue Corporation and Asyad Shipping and to unlock mutual and diverse business opportunities through an active exchange of information and expertise. The prominent Japanese logistics player plans to establish a local joint venture company with Asyad Shipping in the future.
Operating as the shipping arm of Oman’s premier Asyad Group, Asyad Shipping is a state-owned shipping company that stands at the heart of the Omani government's plan to develop marine transportation and transform the country to a vital logistics and shipping hub ferrying domestic and international products across the globe. Initially focused on transporting domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG), Asyad Shipping’s fleet has evolved to include very large crude carriers (VLCCs), very large ore carriers (VLOCs), chemical tankers, bulk carriers, multipurpose vessels, and container ships.
The Sultanate of Oman is a prospering country strategically located in the Middle East overlooking major maritime arteries connecting connects East Africa, the Middle East, the Persian Gulf Coast, and India. Its economy dramatically grew after 1970, and crude oil production, natural gas and other mining industries account today for 76.7% of its total exports. Aside from its strategic location, the Sultanate also boasts several special economic zones and prime shipping ports, including the massive container port of Salalah. Spearheading the country’s ambitious quest to develop the logistics sector is Asyad Group, Oman’s global integrated logistics provider, that operates special economic zones, ports, and maritime service providers across the Sultanate. The most recent addition to Oman’s logistics arsenal was the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) with the state-of-the-art Port of Duqm at its center. SEZAD is set to be home for modern crude oil production facilities, the industry that has contributed to the stable and fast-paced economic growth of a country that is expected to continue its rapid and consistent development.
